South African politician Mmusi Maimani is the former leader of the Democratic Alliance. In addition to leading the DA from May 2015 to October 2019, Maimane was elected Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly in May 2014, making him the first black African male to hold this position in South Africa’s history. Before entering the realm of politics, Maimane ran his own business management consultancy and lectured at the Gordon Institute of Business Science in Johannesburg. Maimane graduated from the University of South Africa with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, the University of the Witwatersrand with a Masters in Public Administration and also received a Masters in Theology from Bangor University in Wales, United Kingdom.
