Judge Dennis Davis is a member of the Commission of Enquiry into Tax Structure of South Africa and an Honorary Professor of Law at the University of Cape Town. After finishing high school at Herzlia in Cape Town, Judge Dennis Davis went on to complete his tertiary education at the University of Cape Town and Cambridge in the United Kingdom. In 1977 and 1989 he was appointed personal chair of Commercial Law. Between ‘95 and ‘97, Judge Davis held joint appointments at both UCT and the University of Witwatersrand where he was Director of the Centre for Applied Legal Studies. In 1988 he was elected as Judge of the High Court followed by his appointment at President of the Competition Appeal Court in 2000. He was also a Technical Adviser to the Constitutional Assembly where the negotiations for South Africa’s interim and final constitutions were formulated and concluded.
